    Blind Pig

    Blind Pig - 3

    208 S. First - Ann Arbor

The Blind Pig is probably our favorite venue; it's certainly where we've played the most, and we always know what to expect. They've supported us since our very first show, and always treated us well. We also used to live about two blocks away, so we had that going for us, which was nice.

    Fleet Foxes, 'Fleet Foxes'

    Fleet Foxes, 'Fleet Foxes'

    By Adam McKibbin - June 2, 2008

I don't like very much new music; even when someone I trust recommends something to me, I rarely love it. And I don't love this album, but I like it a lot. Fleet Foxes don't mind sounding like major pussies in a very unselfconscious way, which is extremely rare in modern music. Also, I could remember some of the songs the day after I first heard them, which is some kind of miracle these days.

    Janet Jackson, 'Discipline'

    Janet Jackson, 'Discipline'

    By Andy Hermann - February 26, 2008

I was a member of the Janet Jackson fan club when I was ten years old, when she was stark raving mad but no one knew it yet. Has anyone actually listened to this album? Miss Janet is crazy like rock stars used to be, which is truly hard to pull off these days.

    Alicia Keys, 'As I Am'

    Alicia Keys, 'As I Am'

By Andy Hermann, Metromix - November 12, 2007

"Teenage Love Affair" is one of the greatest new songs I've heard in a LONG time. So many people think they can achieve this kind of old-mixed-with-new energy and funkiness, and they're just totally wrong.

    Jacoby's

    Jacoby's - 4 1/2

    624 Brush - Detroit (Bricktown/Financial District)

The first time we played here, Stirling (famous local rock god and all-around Coolest Guy Ever) passed us a note halfway during our fog-machine fueled set. It said, "NO SMOKE PLEASE. IT SETS OFF FIRE ALARM". But that's Detroit Rock 'N' Roll for you.

    Big Boy Restaurant

    Big Boy Restaurant - 5

    22765 Gratiot - Eastpointe

This is our favorite restaurant, believe it or not, but you have to go to a specific location - it's the Pittsfield Township Big Boy (3030 Lohr Cir, Ann Arbor, MI 48108). We've been going there since we first started recording "Clouded Staircase". It's family-owned. They treat us like kings. They call us their "best friends".

    Easy Rider - 0

This is, obviously, one of my favorite movies. But last time Jason and I tried to watch it, we ended up sobbing into our post-show Taco Bell meals and eventually breaking half of the furniture in our house.

    Rambo

    Rambo

    By Matt Pais - January 25, 2008

This is one of SE's favorite films of 2008, without any sense of irony or sarcasm whatsoever. One of the rare occasions for us to leave the house this year.
