Miami—a world of loud music, overpriced tequila and an unnatural tolerance of Will Smith music. But in Showtime’s returning show “Dexter,” Miami is also a world chockfull of murder, run-down shacks, murder-suicide, drug dealers, double murder and lots and lots of hookers. (And not the fun kind, either.) Thank heavens we have Dexter to guide us!

Who’s that? Part Robin Hood, part “American Psycho,” expert double-life leader Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is a murderous sociopath–or so we think–surrounded by people who love and underestimate him, including Dexter’s girlfriend Rita (Julie Benz), his cop sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) and his oh-so-oblivious co-workers.

Buzzed about: “NYPD Blue” alum Jimmy Smits joins the cast this season, giving the show some additional actorly cred. And with the introduction of Smits’ character as a prosecutor, the line between the law and Dexter’s personal (murderous) code is further blurred.

The “ooh” factor: Not to be immature, but boy, Rita and Dexter sure do have a lot more dirty naked sex this season! Dexter’s off-the-record investigations also become a bit more involving, but if “dirty naked sex” didn’t grab your attention, we suggest you skip “Dexter” and look into purchasing the “Everybody Loves Raymond” box set.

The “eh” factor: Try as we might, it’s hard to get invested in Dexter’s sister Deb. Yes, she’s becoming slightly more badass with each season, but chica’s whiny, yo.

The verdict: As long as the bodies keep falling and the blood keeps splattering, we’re all aboard the “Dexter” train. Next stop: Murderville.

Season three of “Dexter” premieres Sunday, September 28, at 9pm on Showtime.
