The Cass Cafe is an unofficial hub among artsy folks in Detroit's Cultural District. Located near the Wayne State University campus, the College for Creative Studies, the DIA and the Hillberry Theatre, this hip cafe and bar is known for showcasing the work of local and national artists and for serving up artfully prepared salads, gourmet sandwiches and specialty entrees from around the world. Choose from an assortment of unique appetizers like Fava Bean and Chorizo Quesadilla ($7), Classic Hummus ($6) or Asian Vegetarian Egg Rolls ($7). If you're looking for a light meal, try the house specialty-- the Cafe Lentil Burger ($6). Entrees include Wild Mushroom Cheese Tortellini ($9.50), Peach Schnapps BBQ Center Cut Pork Chops ($13) and Ahi Tuna ($14). The Cass Cafe also offers a decent selection of wines and domestic and imported beers, making it the perfect place to meet friends for drinks. Music, dance and spoken word performances are hosted on the last Sunday of every month. --Andrea K. Farmer
