Jamaican Jerk Pit
314 S. Thayer, Ann ArborOk, so this place doesn’t have much of a breakfast menu, but it piqued our interest with its Jamaican Sweet Porridge and Jamaican Dread Breakfast sandwich listings. The porridge is a breakfast treat with hints of vanilla bean and cinnamon, and the dread sandwich (hair not included) has fried egg, onion, tomato and melted cheese with your choice of jerk sauces on toasted garlic cocoa bread. Employees have real Jamaican accents and breakfast is served until 1 p.m.
Monroe Street Grill
2 W. Front St., MonroeYou can’t mention breakfast without talking about pancakes, and at Monroe Street Grill, pancakes are king. Stop in from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and order up the Pancake Party -- a stack of fresh berry, banana walnut, strawberry, pecan and chocolate chip pancakes -- or dig into the Garbage Omelet, a four-egg omelet stuffed full of meat, cheese and veggies. Exposed brick and ductwork provide an unexpectedly urban feel in downtown Monroe, and the long rows of banquette seating in this cozy, narrow restaurant are excellent for catching up on the previous night’s events.
