Small Plates Royal Oak is carrying on the tradition its sister restaurant in downtown Detroit began -- serving Spanish tapas-style small plates for a true dining experience.
Open since November 2007, the Royal Oak location on busy Main Street is a perfect back drop for a restaurant like Small Plates. The aim here is to take diners away from the traditional American dinner where they sit down in front of a huge piece of meat, eat until they're stuffed and go home. Instead, Small Plates serves smaller portions so that diners can order a few and share with friends. The idea is that the food and experience are fun and they promote conversation and sharing.
The increased variety of food also lends itself well to matching different beverages with different plates. Small Plates has a well stocked wine list that features interesting glass pours as well as bottles to accommodate the broad range of flavors.
