Nothing against the large chains, but there is something special about supporting the local neighborhood restaurant. The quaint, romantic atmosphere. That special VIP service every time you visit. The signature sauce or dressing that you order each and every time without fail. In Dearborn Heights, you can find all of that at Cariera’s.
Opened in 1992 under the franchise Salvatore Scallopini and changing to the family name in 1997, Cariera’s has onsitently been offered metro Detroit diners fresh-tasting, central and southern Italian cuisine ever since.
Right from the start decisions will need to be made. Soup or salad? Cariera's salad, featuring a creamy Romano dressing made from scratch, is incredible. We wouldn't say don't option for the soup, but the salad is fantastic.
As with the rest of your order, there’s no real wrong choice. Pizzas are new to the restaurant (on the menu for about six months) and come in a wide variety. All hand tossed, try out a chicken pesto pizza (with grilled chicken, portabella mushrooms, onion, pesto and mozzarella cheese), or the Italian Philly pizza (black angus steak, tri-colored peppers, mushrooms, onions, gorgonzola and mozzarella cheese), or a lighter option, the vegetarian pizza (eggplant, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, crushed tomatoes and mozzarella cheese).
Signature dishes include the hot appetizer calamari Cariera (a steak cut squid, lightly floured, and sautéed in a white wine lemon butter sauce, served with red onions and capers) and the entrée pollo rollantini (rolled chicken with an Italian cheese mix, baked in the oven, and served over capellini pasta, with a white wine mushroom sauce). The vitello piccata (medallions of veal classically sautéed in a white wine lemon butter sauce) is one of our favorites.
The menu features daily specials, including the likes of a rack of lamb or a surf and turf. Wednesdays are pasta nights with $7.95 pasta varieties.
Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. is Cariera’s happy hour where all appetizers are half-off and all house-made pastas, and wines and drinks are on special. For dessert, the cannolis and tiramisu are all made in house, and items like the profiteroles are imported from Italy.
Cariera’s seats up to 75 inside, and 25-30 on the outside patio (weather dependent). Carry-out and delivery services are available.
