First Taste: Byblos Cafe & Grill

On the corner of Cass Avenue on the campus of Wayne State University, Byblos Café and Grill, a certified Halal restaurant, serves traditional and nouvelle Middle Eastern cuisine. Everything is made fresh and in house from the salads and dressings, to Byblos’s famous sambousik with cheese. Chef and owner Brian Ahmad was trained as a chef in Lebanon and Paris, and although there are no French dishes on the menu, he says that he still uses his extensive training to enhance the cuisine he creates at Byblos. Ahmad buys seasonal local produce and selects and purchases meat straight from the slaughterhouse.
