Downriver, value-conscious diners pack the Sportsmen's Den on Friday nights all year for the golf-course restaurant's $6.99 all-you-can-eat fish fry. Truth be told, even the regular fish-and-chips platter is more than most people can -- or should -- eat. For $6.99 at lunch and $7.99 at dinner, the meal includes a roll, a generous cup of coleslaw and a half dozen good-size pieces of hand-battered pollock on an oval plate full of fries. The kitchen cuts the fish, batters it by hand and deep-fries it to order. Serving pollock rather than cod keeps the price low, and diners clearly like it.
