Los Galanes: User Reviews

I hadn't been to Los Galanes since the start of the big Gateway construction project that has torn up I-75 -- and ripped a hole right through the middle of Mexicantown, but I had a hankering for Mexican and ventured out. In the evening, the traffic wasn't that bad and the construction proved to be only a minor delay. I parked in Los Galanes secured (and monitored) parking and walked around to the front door (they need a sign saying where the entrance is now since their "front street" is ripped up). They are literally RIGHT next to the construction mess and the parking lot afforded a unique sunset view of the mess. Ugh.

Inside, the scene was predictably more appealing. Decent service and interior, but great food and good value. I enjoyed a Dos Equis or three, some stunning guacamole, and some beef/cheese enchiladas. Watch out -- the hot sauce is really hot too.

The owner (?) or manager who rang up my bill told me things have been okay since the work began but there have been notable slow downs. It's a good time to head out and support your Mexicantown faves though, they have a long two years ahead.
