With hundreds of Italian restaurants dotting Detroit, it's hard for one to stand out from the crowd. But you won't soon forget Antonio's Cucina Italiana in Canton. Two 4 1/2-foot-tall white marble lions stride toward you at the front door and there's a life-size rooftop statue of galloping horses pulling a chariot and Roman gladiator. Inside, the 380-seat restaurant features three banquet rooms, a covered patio with high-tech ceiling heaters for late-season dining, a bar with plasma TVs, a gelato counter selling 10 flavors of house-made Italian ice cream and a glass-enclosed cubicle in the lobby where you can see pasta being made. At its heart, Antonio's is all about homey, old-fashioned, Italian-American food. It's the kind of bring-the-family place you look for when you're in the mood for generous plates of homemade pasta, long-simmered red sauces and bubbling-hot dishes of lasagna under thick layers of cheese. --Sylvia Rector

"eating the best italian food available in the metro area"

By sonominted from east lansing, September 13, 2008

There isn't a better restaurant around. For very high quality of food, friendly service, and reasonable prices you cannot beat Antonio's.
