It's no secret that Detroiters work hard and it's also no secret that we can't do it without a good cup of the black stuff to fuel our fires...well most of us anyways. Metromix has narrowed it down to five finalists in the war of coffee pour. You tell us who has the best java. If you think we left out a deserving nominee, let us hear about it!

Plymouth, MI 48170 Located in the heart of downtown Plymouth, the Coffee Bean offers an array of espresso drinks, smoothies, sandwiches, baked goods and more than 30 flavors of hot chocolate. If the Coffee Bean's cozy qualities aren't apparent from the facade of gray brick and siding, they become apparent upon seeing the rustic fireplace and trio of rooms painted burnt orange, pale yellow and sky blue -- and often adorned with art from local artists. Live music and poetry are also featured.

This Corktown venue offers espresso drinks and individually drip-brewed cups of single-origin coffees. For anyone who's serious about coffee, it's a must-visit destination.

Ferndale, MI 48220Grabbing a half-caf, no-foam, nonfat vanilla soy latte from your corner coffee shop just got a little more stimulating thanks to three friends who teamed up to create an Italian coffeehouse in Ferndale. Torino Espresso Bar opened in July on the ground floor of the Lofts on 9 on East 9 Mile. Built from the ground up, the Italian coffeehouse serves all the brewed and iced coffees you’d expect from a decent java hut, but with the added benefit of cocktails, wines and martinis. What’s not to love about that?

Birmingham's newest gathering place is an independent, barista-style coffee cafe called Commonwealth that has sleek, contemporary styling; a healthful, local menu of chef-prepared foods, and direct-trade coffees from Grand Rapids' MadCap Coffee Co. and the chic Stumptown Coffee Roasters in Portland, Ore. It's a place designed for serious coffee lovers: Beans are ground just before brewing for each cup of coffee and espresso, and each cup is individually prepared using a pour-through drip brewing system. It takes about 3 1/2 minutes to prepare a cup of coffee and about 2 minutes for an espresso.

Detroit, MI 48201This 2,200-square-foot shop in Midtown features artisanal pour-over coffee, a brewing method with water poured directly onto a filter of coffee suspended over a single cup. The process takes about two and a half minutes. The cafA also serves wine, beer and cocktails along with a variety of nontraditional cafA fare, such as vegan porridge and octopus and squid.
