Sometimes the best things really do come in small packages. Diamonds. iPods. That little black dress. But none of those things comes with a vanilla bean waffle, lightly crisped outside, topped with fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries, a glacier of whipped cream and drizzles of maple syrup. For that, you'll have to seek out a small place a short vibration away from the railroad tracks that slice through downtown Royal Oak. Breakfast served all day.

Frittata

Frittata

236 S. Main
Clawson, MI 48017
This intimate breakfast and lunch bistro is an oasis off Main Street with warm tones and flowers on every table. No surprise: frittatas are a house specialty ($9). Make your own or choose from the menu. Sure, the salmon Oscar frittata sounds fancy, or try the Honey Bee, with roasted nopal cactus and poblano peppers. Other breakfast regulars are on the menu and can be ordered all day. Salads and sandwiches are available at lunchtime ($9). Everyone is welcome whether you're coming from the office or looking for a good post-outing nosh. In spring, the patio comes to life with beautifully landscaped flowers. --Becky Schutter
