Ronin, a Royal Oak sushi and Asian fusion destination, isn't one of those restaurants that you visit and forget the next day. It makes an impression. Step into the dimly lit interior and the aesthetic is cool, modern and spare, with high, dark ceilings, rough-sawn cedar plank walls and floors paved with glossy pebbles. Ahead, the main dining area merges into the bright sushi bar at the back of the room, where up to four chefs are constantly busy. Casual and smartly tailored describes the food on both the small, stylish kitchen menu and the more extensive sushi menu. The kitchen's plates reflect a restrained Japanese influence. They're creative and beautiful with top-of-the-line ingredients, so don't be surprised at the bill. Although Ronin feels casual, its kitchen aims to be more serious, and prices reflect that. A starter, two entrees and two draft beers will come in around $50 before tax and tip.
