It was after I first walked into the Birmingham bakery with its '50s-themed décor that I knew I was in for a treat, and possibly the toughest decision of my life -- deciding which cupcake to eat (a task I take very seriously). Owners Kerry Johnson and Tom Halleman suggested the What’s Up Doc?, their signature cupcake and one of this MMXer's favorites. They also recommended the Chocolate Cheesecake, which Halleman says was one of the first cupcakes he and Johnson made (and the one that wowed their friends and family). The Michigan Bumpy Cake also ranked high on the list of must-tries.

They are old-fashioned and a tad caloric, but cupcakes are one of those sweet treats that take you back to the time when trips to the neighborhood bakery were fun the whole family could enjoy.

When Metromix visited the Cupcake Station during Dream Cruise weekend, Johnson and Halleman were celebrating its third year anniversary with their annual Cupcake Eating Contest. Now, if you think shoveling as many cupcakes as you can into your mouth in eight minutes is enough to kill your cupcake craving, think again. Cupcake contest winner Sara Ramon ate 18 of the tiny cakes, beating last year's record by four. Now, that’s a lot of cupcakes!

Whether you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth or you want to give that special person a sweet treat, the Cupcake Station serves up cupcakes made from scratch everyday using fresh ingredients. Cupcakes can be ordered in five different flavors with 5 different frosting choices. A choice of chocolate toppings is also available to help ensure you get the most out of your cupcake eating experience.
