Italy in Wyandotte

We recently moved to Wyandotte, Michigan from San Francisco. Our first dining experience was Portofino located on the water off Biddle Ave. We were a little concerned about having dinner with our friends from Ann Arbor, real foodies, at a restaurant that locals seem to know little about but our fears were unfounded. Upon entering the foyer we were warmly greeted by two beautiful hostesses, who seated us quickly at a table in a stepped area with a panaramic view of the Detroit river, with constant ice flows. In reviewing the wine list we were surprised at the diversity of the list but disappointed that there were no vintages listed on the list. When we inquired about a specific wine and vintage, the server, Cecilia, quickly brought us the Chianti we selected. We decided to go with an older Amarone because of the vintage. We ordered the fried Mozzarella and the Calamari. Both appetizers came out quickly, which was not surprising as the restaurant was very quiet. The Mozzarella and the Ca;amari were great. Our group of 4 ordered 3 entrees and asked to split one so that we could share. We were not informed that there was a split charge of $2.00 but the split plates had full potions of vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. Our entrees of Stuffed Shells, Veal Tortelacci and Asiago Stuffed Gnocchi were incredible. We are glad we shared the Tortelacci as it was a large portion. We decided against a dessert but would like to goback sometime just to get the chocolate lava cake. Our salads that came with the entrees were simple but good. We will visit Portofino again soon as we found the pricing to be very reasonable, the service friendly and knowledgeable and the view stunning.

Rude female manager, bad food!

Ambience was ruined with white paper over tablecloths, every time you moved your arm it stuck on paper, husband got paper cut from the sharp paper over the tablecloth. Coffee cups were dirty. Lasagna had chuncks of fat/grissle that I had to keep removing from my mouth (embarassing) unacceptable and could not eat. Lasagna had alfredo sauce over the tomatoe sauce, not a good combination. Husband said Shrimp was good tho. Not a lot to choose from on menu. Waiter not informed, manager rude. Not going back.
