Fall fosters desires for warm, comforting foods such as delicious rotisserie chicken, a popular item on the menu at the three J. Alexander's restaurants in metro Detroit (this one inside Somerset Collection). The half chicken is seasoned with fresh herbs, rubbed with spices, then slow-roasted until it's golden brown outside and well-cooked yet moist inside. The $15 entree is accompanied by the restaurant's own mashed potatoes. They're, well, smashed - not mashed or pureed - so the well-seasoned, slightly garlicky potatoes are left with enough lumps to add body and texture. --Cassandra Spratling
