For these young recording artists, age is just a number
Ah, youth. Some of us spend it doing keg stands instead of studying for that mid-term on Monday—but not these guys (OK, we bet Deer Tick's John McCauley has done the occasional keg stand…but aside from him). Instead, they've precociously honed their talents to such a degree that some (like Adele and Justin Bieber) are already well on their way to conquering the world—and others (like rapper Rockie Fresh and singer-songwriters Christina Perri and Jessica Lea Mayfield, pictured) will probably conquer it in the next six months or so.
So what makes these 25 young artists our picks for music's "hottest"? It's not just about their looks, and it's not a popularity contest. What we're really talking about is some hard-to-define mix of raw talent and naked ambition, present accomplishments and future potential. These are the artists we can pretty safely predict we'll still be talking about 10 years from now—maybe even 50 years from now.
