Jon Barrow and Obie Trice
Former Shady Records mic master Obie Trice, one of Detroit's premiere rappers, made some noise Friday at Via Nove at the launch party for his new label, Black Market Entertainment.
“Black Market symbolizes where I came from and where a lot of other artists come from so I wanted to use that symbolism for my label,” says Trice, who was signed to Eminem’s Shady Records from 2002 to 2008.
The Big O, who released two full-length albums on Shady Records before releasing 2009's "Special Reserve" independently, has worked with plenty of big-name artists in the past, including Em, Akon, and Dr. Dre.
A portion of proceeds benefited the Southeastern Michigan Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheer League and the Project NEXT Initiative, a program created to help high school and middle school students work toward academic excellence.
