The blue collar invasion

Spawning from Motown and evolving through garage rock, the Detroit music scene is continually reinventing itself.

As the wavering economy breathes harder down the neck of the Motor City, a new trend of music is beginning to rise from the rubble.  With alt-country new-comers Scarlet Oaks and The Four Hour Friends teaming up with veterans Great Lakes Myth Society, the Comerica Cityfest Park Stage will be brimming with working class, folk rock artists this year.

Although many of us can no longer afford to buy the gas it takes to drive downtown, we can take solace in knowing that the festival is free to the public. If you're lucky, you may be able to hitch a ride with Stirling Silver, resident icon and ringleader of the local stage.

Regardless of how you get there, make sure to stop by the Park Stage at some point during the holiday weekend to check out your new favorite band.
