What is the best car that you’ve owned?
Chevy Citation. I’ve owned three of them. There’s something very spaceship like about that car. You feel like you’re in a little space pod. At one point a couple of friends of mine all owned Citations, and we were going to start a club.
And the worst?
That would also be the Citation. We were driving back from Toronto when I was in high school. We pulled into a little town that had one phone booth that didn’t work and one building that was empty. We ran out of gas.
But the great thing about the Citation is that all of your change gets caught underneath the seat. We just slid the seat forward and had enough money to get through the border and buy gas to get home. So that is the best and worst car I’ve ever owned.
What do you drive now?
The bus. We have to get to a point in this city where public transportation isn’t looked on as a social crutch. You shouldn’t be looked down upon for taking the bus. This is one of the only cities in the world that is like that.
I’m going to lobby for it in my own way, just by taking it and making use of it as much as I can, as much of a pain in the ass that it is sometimes. It is kind of nice though, having your own personal driver.
Can you think of a funny or crazy story, something that happened to you while driving?
I’ve been in about 20 car accidents. I’ve had a guy try to run me off the road “Dukes of Hazzard” style, just for looking at him wrong. I’ve had cars start on fire on me a couple of times, one of the times being a Citation. They’re a wonderful piece of Detroit machinery. Everybody’s safer if I’m on the bus.
