In the late '90s, Hayes enjoyed a late-career resurgence—and won over a new generation of fans—thanks in part to his role as the voice of Chef on "South Park." After nine seasons, however, Hayes got into a fight with the show's creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, over an episode that made fun of Scientology, the cult-like church of which Hayes was a member. Hayes quit the show and Stone and Parker killed off Chef at the beginning of season 10.
