Eminem live in Detroit
May 19, 2009
In front of an enthusiastic hometown audience on Tuesday night, the final piece of rapper Eminem's comeback was put into place.
"Long time no see. Did you miss me?" Eminem asked the nearly 2,000 screaming fans inside the MotorCity Casino Hotel's music venue and club Sound Board after opening his set with the sinister single "3 a.m."
Joined onstage with Denaun (Kon Artis) Porter and DJ Alchemist, Eminem blasted through a potent 30-minute set of songs pulled from his dark and confessional new full-length "Relapse," which was released Tuesday.
Tickets for the show were given away through a variety of promotions put together by Eminem's management, including a scavenger hunt throughout the city of Detroit where clues were released on Em's Twitter account, an announcement through MySpace Music, and a nearly month-long promotion on Channel 95.5's "Mojo in the Morning" radio show on WKQI-FM (95.5).
It was part of a dramatic return to the public realm over the past few weeks for the multiplatinum rapper, who had battled a variety of personal demons and other issues in the more than four years since the release of his previous disc, "Encore."
Before concluding his set with members of D12 on stage for the Grammy-winning “Lose Yourself” from his motion picture “8 Mile," Eminem, dressed casually in gray and black, went through “Relapse” tracks, including “Hello,” “Crack a Bottle,” “Underground,” and the big MTV-styled single “We Made You.”
