With a dizzying array of choices on the most celebrated bar night of the year, how does one narrow the options for Thanksgiving Eve? Pretty much every liquor-serving establishment has something enticing — from drink specials  to themed parties. Here are several places to get the most musical bang for your buck.

The Magic Stick is hosting the return of the Satin Peaches. It’s been a little more than a year since the rock band quietly split. Before going their separate ways, the members were signed to Island Records, released an album and two EPs and were part of successful tours in the U.S. and Britain.

“We’d been going pretty hard for about seven years with various lineups, and didn’t have it in us to take a step back and start over again,” says vocalist-guitarist Jesse Shepherd-Bates.

For the first time ever, the band will perform as a five-piece, featuring members from previous lineups, including George Morris, Shepherd-Bates, Ryan Wiese, Aaron Nelson and Jeremy Smith.

Starling Electric, the Handgrenades and Lovechild will also perform.Doors at 9 p.m. The Magic Stick, 4120 Woodward, Detroit. 313-833-9700. $10.

  • Callahan’s will host its fifth-anniversary party with longtime Detroit party band the Reefermen as the band celebrates “Sunday Morning Smoke,” a new vinyl release. Doors at 7 p.m. Callahan’s, 2105 South Blvd., Auburn Hills. 248-858-9508. $10.

  • The Magic Bag will host a four-band bill featuring some of the hottest groups on Detroit’s indie-rock scene, with Amy Gore & Her Valentines, Class Three Overbite, the High Strung and Almost Free. Doors at 8 p.m. The Magic Bag, 22920 Woodward, Ferndale. 248-544-3030. $8.

  • The Pike Room will feature a mix of electronic, rock and metal acts. Heading up the bill are Cybertrybe, with Fall Prey, Shudder, Volcano & the New Radio Standard, Demension and the O’Shaunessy Boys. Burlesque dancing and giveaways will round out the night. And for a few things happening this weekend....

Echo Fest III
The third annual Echo Fest explores the sights and sounds of psychedelia through movies, lights and music. On Saturday, Eight bands that experiment with psychedelic sounds will perform on two stages inside the Lager House in Detroit.

On the main stage are Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor, Moon Pool & Dead Band, Children of the Emerald Fire and Troubadour Dali.

On the second stage look for Future Slang, Rogue Satellites, Moss Folk and Michael Mars & the God Particle.
Odd movies, lightscapes and projections will contribute to the psychedelic theme.

Nancy’s gets some action
Nancy Whiskey’s is a Corktown mainstay – a quaint Irish pub on the corner of Harrison and Spruce Streets since 1902.

On a typical weekend, it’s home to many great blues performances. On Saturdaynov17, the music will turn up a notch as some hard-hitting bands land on the famed Corktown stage.

Heading up the bill are Detroit rockers Easy Action, led by the uncompromising howl of lead singer John Brannon. Snakewing, the Dewtons and Dick Hickey will also perform.

Doors at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nancy Whiskey’s, 2644 Harrison, Detroit. 313-962-4247. $5 for ages 21 and older.

Give back with the blues
Three local blues bands will perform Saturday at the New Place Lounge in Dearborn as part of a fund-raiser to support WHFR-FM (89.3).

The non-commercial station broadcasts out of Henry Ford Community College and relies on listener support for most of its operations.

The station features a variety of music and eclectic programming, including lots of local music, but boasts that it plays the most blues on the metro Detroit airwaves.

On tap to perform are Leonardo, the Chris Canas Band and Machine Gun Kelly.

Music at 9 p.m. Saturday, The New Place Lounge, 22723 Michigan, Dearborn. 313-277-3035. $$5 for ages 21 and older.
