Encore: DJ Mark E

Thanks so much for playing the official Metromix opening night party for the Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats -- Encore. For those who are not that familiar with you, please tell us a little bit more about yourself:
I'm a badass DJ doing his thing -- taking you on a musical journey that consists of many genres of music. So, for me, it’s not about who’s there or what they’re doing, it’s all about the music. To bring that to an event consists of understanding the crowd and what type of music gets them going.

For those who haven't witnessed you do your thing, describe your style...
I don’t like to be thought of as a one-sided DJ. You have your DJs that say they’re a hip-hop DJ or a dance DJ, but that’s not me. I’m known more for my ability to adapt to any kind of crowd. I play a combination of hip-hop, rock and dance, which allows everyone to hear a little of what they like. Right now, the big thing in Detroit is mash-ups, but nothing is off limits in my mind.

What's a regular night you play that people should attend?
I’ve been having so much fun playing for different crowds at different venues that I’ve only taken on one residency which is, the Post Bar in Novi. You can catch me there every Thursday.

What's the latest on new releases, etc?
I actually have a lot of  tracks that I plan to release, once they meet my expectations and standards. I can’t really give you a date, because I’m a bit of a perfectionist in the studio. When I do finish them, you can check them out on a new website  www.secretremixes.com due to be up and running this fall.

What does it mean to you to be a part of the Detroit music community?
I don’t really get out that much. Chances are if I’m not booked, I’m in the studio. When I do get out, I like to catch various DJs and bands. Whether they’re local or a national act, if I like them, I show support.

What is the ultimate Detroit night out on the town for you?
Depending on whether or not there’s any crime in Gotham that evening, I would enjoy a long walk through Belle Isle (laughs) ... I’m kidding. The ultimate night out would be catching a show featuring Shwayze, Cisco Adler, Mickey Avalon, Dirt Nasty, LMFAO and DJ AM -- if someone was smart enough to book a show with all of them... A lot of shots and some good company.
