For 29 years, it offered one of Detroit's unique cultural experiences: three days of boot-scooting country boogie on the riverfront.

This weekend, the twang will be intact but a new tradition is under way for the WYCD Downtown Hoedown. After years of billing itself as the world's biggest free outdoor country fest, the event will mark its 30th year with a major reinvention, embracing a new venue, a new calendar slot and -- for the first time -- an admission fee.

The Hoedown's reign as a free Hart Plaza festival ended in March, when organizers announced it would become a ticketed event on the grounds of Comerica Park, where 41 acts are booked to perform on three stages Friday through Sunday.
