It never takes long for Bond to get some action
“Quantum of Solace” begins with quite possibly the loudest bang in James Bond’s 46-year history. Bond races his Aston Martin around the narrow, curvy, cliff-side roads outside Siena, Italy, while men with semi-automatic machine guns follow in hot pursuit. Bullets riddle the car. Bond’s driver’s side door is ripped off. Wheels hit gravel, and threaten to take the car plunging into the ocean far below.
It’s a rapid, explosive opening sequence, and immediately revives memories of the 21 other cliffhanger openings of years past. Bond’s pre-credit teasers have incorporated everything from New Orleans funeral marches to base jumps off the top of the Hoover Dam. Here’s a look back at the seven best prologues of 007. —S.
