Thanks to the iPod revolution, people are
turning to music in downloadable MP3 form in ever-growing quantities. As a
result, the independent record stores -- so long a reliable source of music on
American high streets -- are struggling to pay the bills. Set for Saturday, April
19, National Record Store Day will celebrate such institutions, serving as a
reminder to the white-earphone generation of the cultural and historical impact
these stores have had, and the need to protect our musical heritage by keeping
our record stores alive. Being the vinyl lovers that we are here at Metromix,
we’ve compiled a play-list of five record stores here in the
