Welcome to the farmers market season and the annual Free Press guide. Soon the markets will be abundant with locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Most feature fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, though some crops will be slow to come to market because of the cool spring. If you are looking for something in particular, it’s a good idea to check with the market before you go.

Some markets now accept Bridge cards and Project Fresh and Senior Project Fresh coupons.

New this year, some markets also are participating in the Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks project. This is for people who use Bridge cards for food assistance. Each time the card is used for fruits and vegetables, the amount spent is matched, dollar for dollar, up to $20, to be used toward more fruits and vegetables. For more information, go to www.DoubleUpFoodBucks.org.
