Leanings: He was born in D.C. which makes him really patriotic (just look at the picture). But his rants against left-wingers, his heated debates againts ultra-neo-cons, his ability to shock and awe on subjects including Mother's Day, and his constant finger wagging makes him an unpredictable maverick...just like McCain.
Vice-ness: In Colbert Country, when his television show guests are introduced the host stands up and accepts applause from his crowd ("nation") -- as it is his show (don't tread on him). With the last eight years being all about the citizens, Colbert is exactly the kind of self-centered, unsympathetic and elitist character the U.S. needs so desperately right now.
