After U.S Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) made history last week as the first African-American nominee for President by a major political party, Metro Detroiters of all ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds gathered under the hot sun at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit to catch a glimpse of Obama during a Labor Day Rally on Monday.
Traditionally candidates use Labor Day speeches to promote American companies and its hard working employees but Obama used the opportunity to ask Detroiters to donate money, clothes and other items to those impacted by Hurricane Gustav in southern Gulf States.
