In February, Channel 95.5’s “Mojo in the Morning” show celebrated its 10th anniversary on the air waves in Detroit. Part of that success, Mojo says, is because “we are imperfect people in a very screwed up world! We run the tables from me being the father of three who knows his wife wears the pants in the family to Spike antagonizing everyone and being ‘Detroit's No. 1 Dickhead’ to Shannon (Murphy), a 27-year-old single female who every girl can relate to and is the voice of reason.”
A consistent ratings powerhouse, the early-morning drive is fueled by quick-witted personalities, phone scams galore, the very disturbing catch-your-lover-cheating confessional “War of the Roses and engaging pop culture interviews. Spike, who is an avid photographer and enjoys talking to Metromix bottomless, says they always try to top themselves and keep Detroiters guessing, but it’s the phone scams that are the “most popular feature on our show. In all, I’ve scammed almost 700 people and it's fun to find creative new ways to get a laugh, just as we did earlier this month by inviting rapper Ludacris to phone scam a listener with us.”
Shannon, a super proud native Detroiter who joined the team in 2009, not only has her entire family living here and listening in, but feels that a huge part of the show’s success are the real stories they all share with their extended family – metro Detroit’s listeners. “From crying on the air over a broken engagement to disclosing my ‘time of the month’ schedule, I don't hold anything back and the rest of the show is very much like that as well,” she says. “We are REAL people experiencing our good days and bad days just like everyone else -- which I think allows our listeners to develop a relationship with us… like they actually know us on an intimate level. Our listeners have helped me get through some really tough -- and really exciting -- moments in my life over the past few months.”
