The “oldest continuously operating bar in Michigan,” the Stonehouse has been serving
its colorful assortment of patrons since before the Purple Gang legendarily
made this 150-year-old Victorian farmhouse their clubhouse/brothel during
Prohibition. Hidden on a one-way street in a rough neighborhood behind the
State Fairgrounds, Stonehouse regulars are a bunch of tough-on-the-outside,
mostly-friendly-on-the-inside, Harley ridin’ bikers. And when the circus or
State Fair is in town, road-weary carnies join the mix! It’s amazing. Have your
ultimate Detroit
nightcap here, then kiss the city that raised you, "Goodnight and
goodbye."
