Dress for summer concert success

There’s nothing quite like a summer concert in the D. The finally warm weather, the (hopefully) sun shining down (at the outdoor events, of course) and all the drunken debauchery that surrounds the music; there really is nothing better than that. But if you’re anything like us, that’s not the only makings to a good music fest.

In order to feel complete, that amazing concert just wouldn’t feel right without that one essential ingredient: the perfect outfit. Luckily, we at Metromix searched around the Motor City for what to get and where to get it. Just in time to keep your style concert-cool.

The Traditional T
Could there be a better staple? Probably not, so stick to the basics here guys and gals and check-out Rock on Main in Northville to get Junk Food T-shirts ($30-36 for dudes and $22-24 for ladies) which just so happen to be made in the great ol’ U.S. of A.

Whether it’s for the artsy sights and sounds of Bonnaroo or a local indie band at the Rock City Festival at the Majestic Theatre, everyone should express themselves any way they feel, according to store owner Colleen Pozzuoli. “That’s what music’s all about,” she says. We couldn’t agree more.

Feeling psychedelic? Then take a trip with these Peace Sign tye-dye Ts ($28) and tanks ($24) at Bella Mia in Plymouth. Also, show your hometown love with shirts from Pure Detroit brand apparel. Found exclusively right here in the D, baby.

Just the right Jeans
Staple number two: denim duds. Jeans go with literally everything -- for both guys and girls -- and can be bought at boutiques like, Lost and Found Vintage in Royal Oak (which is also stacked with 50’s rockabilly, vintage T-shirts, original concert tour shirts, Levi’s and accessory finds), Bella Mia, and Rock on Main.

These are perfect looks to rock-out in at shows by The Raconteurs or Jakob Dylan and the Gold Mountain Rebels at St. Andrew’s. Silver brand jeans go from $70-80 bucks at Bella Mia and even Silver jean shorts can be picked-up for $52 there, while at Rock on Main you can snag U.S.A.-made Red Engine denim for $160 and AG, MAC, Mavi, Ernest I AM and Some for All Mankind for the fellas.

Dresses for dancing
Dig deep into your inner-hippie and fire up for western Michigan’s Rothbury music festival (which combines artists, circus and theatre) for a spin-off into this summer’s concert style. The Get Up vintage clothing in Ann Arbor, Flirty Fashions in Rochester, Brazelles Vintage in Grosse Pointe Park (for second-hand looks) and Bella Mia all have stock in bohemian dresses and trapeze tops that Bella Mia owner Sarah Stobbe says are comfortable fits for a hot and sticky concert night. A Soundgirl dress for $68, Free People dress for $96 and flower top by MM Couture by Miss Me ($66) are a few Bella Mia picks. Think freedom, love and liberating looks. Can you dig it?

Shades for shading
Covering your eyes -- or red-eyes because we’re not that naïve -- never goes out of style either, particularly at concerts. Find just the right pair of sunglasses for that July trip of camping out at Rothbury at Bella Mia boutique, where Coach, Dolce & Gabbana, Lacoste, LV and Chanel shades all go for $18. Rock on Main carries a variety of Incognito wear for $16 to also go with the concert costume. Other essential accessories: over-the shoulder Coach messenger bags (perfect for on the go) for $34 at Bella Mia boutique. The music revolution will never look so good.

Festival Footwear
Keep it simply-easy and slap on a pair of sandals for the summer-time jams. If you don’t want to get caught stepping out of sync -- think Lollapalooza hodge-podge -- Sanuk has sandals that are not quite a shoe for guys and girls, which can be scoped up at Rock on Main for $34-38 in flip-flop styles for the ladies and $66-68 leather slip-ons with a flip-flop bottom for men. Another option: how bout some soul from Sole Sisters in Rochester Hills? ‘Cause really isn’t it all about what makes those tootsies feel good, anyway?
