September is here (well, really close) and with it comes late nights in the library (for the lucky college students out there), an end to bathing suit season and (are you ready for some) football Saturdays.
Aw yeah.
Finally; a little Saturday excitement! No more lazy days in front of the TV watching "Flavor of Love" marathons. It is time to dust off that jersey, paint your chest and cheer on your favorite college team. Unless, of course, the idea of watching a football game is about as appealing as sitting in rush hour on 696. If that is the case for you, have no fear; there are plenty of options for you non-football fans out there.
One of the biggest benefits of a football Saturday is the fact that everyone in town is either at the game or watching it. That means you, non-football fan, have the entire town at your fingertips. Feel like doing some shopping? You can do it…without the long lines. In the mood for food? Take advantage of the game-day specials (they will let you have 'em whether or not you are actually watching the game).
If you don't feel like spending the day alone, why not take part in some of the festivities?
Just because you're not going to the game doesn't mean you can't enjoy the spirit of the day. Throw on your team's colors (don't know em? Just match your friends) and head to the tailgate parties. Eat the food, play some beer pong like the champ that you are, and when everyone else leaves for the game…go home and take a nap. Seems like a total win/win to me.
There is even some hope for those of you being dragged out to watch the game on someone's plasma surrounded by burly dudes who keep on grunting. Turn the game into a game of your own. You don't have to know, understand, or like football to enjoy watching it. Simply gather a few other non-fans together and, individually, decide the following:
-- How long the game will last?
-- Which team will score first?
-- Which team will score last?
-- Which team will kick a field goal first?
-- Which team will take a timeout first?
-- Team with last possession in 1st half?
-- Choose a half of the game when the most points will be scored?
-- Who will have the highest score during the first half?
-- Whether the total points scored by each team will be an even number or an odd number?
-- (Here’s an obvious one) Which team will win?
-- How many beer commercials there will be throughout the game?
-- How many commercials with half-naked girls there will be throughout the game?
-- Or just pick any other random non-game things you'd like to watch for…
When the game is over (and you aren't painfully bored from watching yet another dumb football game), tally up the scores and award a prize to the winner!
It could be anything from the leftover guac to a gift certificate to the Original Pancake House. It doesn't matter; you enjoyed watching a football game, so you are all winners in the end.
