Street (D)Team: Paczki Day
Metromix made the rounds in Hamtramck on Fat Tuesday to celebrate in true Polish fashion. First stop was the New Dodge where doors opened at 7 a.m. for Paczki Day. A packed house gorged on Bud and Jager specials and authentic Polish fare while the bravest took to the stage for the inaugural Paczki Cup paczki eating contest hosted by the Ham-town fire department. Polish Muslims showed their spirit with pop and rock Polish-themed parodies.
Next stop was at neighborhood favorite, Whiskey in the Jar where the Kielbasa Kings kept the tent warm outside with peppy Polkas and Jeży Jell-O shots and raspberry vodka paczki satisfied both hunger and thirst. The day was rounded out the day with a quick stop at Suzy’s Bar and the Belmont.
