First Look: Tap in the MGM Grand
The giant 292-seat TAP sports bar and restaurant at MGM Grand Detroit opened to the public Sept. 20, offering sports fans a wide selection of familiar entrees — from pastas and meatloaf to barbecue ribs and steaks — as well as salads, soups, burgers and pizzas.
There’s also a children’s menu, reflecting TAP’s status as a kid-friendly restaurant. Families with youngsters can enter through a door from the MGM Grand Hotel’s lobby.
The beverage menu offers more than 30 bottled beer selections and 30 beers on tap, including many Michigan craft brews, plus specialty cocktails, wines and spirits.
Sports fans can watch their favorite games on 40-plus HD flat-screen TVs, and complimentary Wi-Fi is available.
TAP is replacing the former Wolfgang Puck Grille, which closed in the spring. The newly redecorated space features all kinds of sports memorabilia from Detroit’s baseball, basketball, football and hockey teams, as well as photos and other items reflecting hydroplane racing, boxing and wrestling. Some of the vintage photographs came from the old Lindell AC sports bar, which closed in 2002.
