Best Cosmopolitans in Detroit
Looking for a great "Sex and the City" styled cosmopolitan? You’re best
bet is to stick to the traditional martini bars in Detroit, but why
restrict yourself? Most restaurants and bars have the capabilites to
mix up a sexy cosmo, but are they any good?
This drink, made
popular by the HBO Series “Sex and the City,” is harder to find than
you think. Simple ingredients -- vodka, lime juice, triple sec,
cranberry juice and a lime
garnish -- but difficult to make. Variations are acceptable, and
actually encouraged: the vodka for citrus vodka, the triple sec for
Cointreau or Grand Marnier, lime or lemon, and lime juice mixtures or
pure lime juice.
So if Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha
showed up at my doorstep I’d take them to Centaur Bar, Atlas or Sweet
Georgia Brown for the best cosmopolitans in town.

My rules of the game: I ordered the basic cosmopolitan
served at that venue -- what was advertised or -- when I asked -- followed the
suggestion of the server. So, it is not apples to apples. Everything
from the choice of the vodkas (Smirnoff, Absolut Citron, Grey Goose,
brand X) to the lemon or lime garnish was a decision made by the
bartender.
