With the decline in the economy, downtown Detroit clubs have fought for survival but often succumb to debts and other problems.

Elysium Lounge, which has survived as one of Detroit premiere nightclubs, celebrated its five-year anniversary Saturday before shutting down for renovations which are expected to be complete by mid November or early December.

Though Elysium owners have been secretive about what’s to come in the next few months, promoter Zach Kashmola says the intention is to add “some wow factors to the club’s sound, lighting and overall appearance.”
