And the winner is…
Luna
1815 N. Main
Royal Oak, MI 48073Narrowing down the after-dark destinations was an easy choice for readers, who overwhelmingly put Luna in the top spot. It’s one of the standards for dance-floor action in Royal Oak, with hundreds of people getting down to the DJs sounds. When not stepping to the beats on the dance floor, you can kick it freestyle in a lounge area or chill on the couch. With a music rotation that runs to ’80s/’90s/obscurely hip, the dance floor is the focal point in this high-energy party den.
Nominees
The Hamilton Room
201 Hamilton Ave.
Birmingham, MI 48009Neighborhood: Downtown Birmingham
Plenty of clubs claim to be upscale, but the Hamilton Room in Birmingham actually delivers. Theres nothing simple about the exclusive ambiance the Hamilton Room exudes through its glass columns with etched, back-lit lions or its oversized antique-looking couches and chairs with high-gloss finishes. Though most of the dcor -- from the walls, to the sleek chandeliers to the bar tops is black, the L.A. designer avoided a dark gothic feel by adding different textures and finishes.
V at MGM Grand Detroit
1777 Third
Detroit, MI 48226Neighborhood: Corktown/Michigan Ave.
Since opening in the Detroit casino about two years ago, A-list celebs like Kim Kardashian, P. Diddy, and Ludacris have passed through te doors of V, which boasts state-of-the-art light and sound systems (like many clubs) but this one actually delivers. Raised one-person dance platforms take away a little of the usable space in the 300-person venue, but part of the V experience includes rubbing elbows with strangers (or soon-to-be friends) in the close proximity of the club
Necto
516 E. Liberty
Ann Arbor, MI 48104Neighborhood: Downtown Ann Arbor
Wildly popular for dancing, Necto has excellent lighting and sound capabilities with an eclectic lineup of guest DJs. Necto has also built a reputation for its gay-friendly atmosphere. Drink specials keep the party going all week.
Bleu Detroit
1540 Woodward
Detroit, MI 48012Live electronic, techno and hip-hop acts pack crowds onto Bleu's dance floor every weekend. The caged dancer above the bar is a favorite of men ordering drinks, and the two levels of VIP tables, off the dance floor and on the second level where the DJs perform, are perfect for celebrations. By midnight, the dance crowd is usually so big, it covers the entire first level, except for a little room around the bar where people crowd, drinking and smoking. It's not surprising to see Woodward lined with party buses dropping off the well-groomed and dressed to impress each other.
