Status: Ferndale’s Eden Nightclub has seen its share of growing pains over the years. Starting off as Cobalt, it transformed to Posh in 2003 before becoming (in 2006) the successful Ferndale hot spot it is today.

“I think it’s the look and feel inside of the club,” Eden co-owner Vlad Mirkovich says explaining Eden’s popularity. “We wanted to create a kind of exclusive-looking place, but we don’t want people to feel intimidated.”

Bubble windows form a random pattern on the white exterior indicating a sense of whimsy at this party destination, but the polished interpretation of the Garden of Eden can be seen inside with white beds surrounded by soft, flowing curtains, a white oblong-shaped bar, crystal chandeliers, creeping vines and a lone blood-red apple hanging from a tree in the middle of the bar.

Gear: “When we were Posh, we were very strict about the dress code, but we’re not going to deny anybody,” Mirkovich says. “We’ll let them in, but we’ll ask people not to wear hats and athletic wear the next time they come.”

Guys can dress comfortably in jeans and button-up dress shirts most nights at Eden. Throw on a tie for one of Eden’s fancier events or a designer tee for a more laid-back night on the town. Ladies will fit in wearing jeans or club wear.

Mood: Two levels allow Eden to host multiple events at the same time and computer-controlled lights allow for an endless possibility of mood lighting.

“One moment, the entire room can be red, blue or green – that’s what makes it kind of exciting,” Mirkovich says.

A dance floor slightly blocked off from the bar with an exposed brick wall sits on one end of the first floor. On the smaller lower level (or Ultra Lounge), several seating areas give you a place to rest those stiletto-encased feet, though they don’t really allow for conversations over the forceful beats.

“The Ultra Lounge is really fun because it’s kind of small and cozy if you don’t want to be in a big room,” Mirkovich says.

Pick me up: Both the bar upstairs and the one on the lower level offer a few Eden-inspired shots and martinis. Domestic beers are a reasonable $3 a pop, and mixed drinks average $5-6.

Entertainment
DJ Pannos spins mostly house and Euro beats in the Ultra Lounge downstairs and DJ Godfather does his mash-up madness and other musical moves on the main floor in front of the bar.

There’s a DJ booth near the dance floor on one end of the club, but Mirkovich says they rarely use that one because he found people like to be able to order drinks, while dancing and watching the DJ.

“What I like about Eden is that it has that clean sexy Miami look,” says 27-year-old Detroiter Adnan Medic. “No other club in metro Detroit offers what Eden does as far as service and entertainment.”

From Switch Fridays with different DJs from all over the country to Love Hate on Saturdays, Eden keeps the crowds guessing with different additions of their regular themed parties.

This Friday, Switch presents Beauty and the Beast with DJs Dabura and Jenna Brown.

I love the Miami look, especially the whites. I am a firm believer that lighter colors, mixed with pinks, purples, reds, and blues bring a refreshi...
