Status: Elegantly eclectic is one way to describe Duo, a new restaurant and lounge that opened in the La Mirage Shopping Center in Southfield this September.

Duo is a “New York/Chicago-inspired restaurant and lounge,” says Justin Near whose company handles the PR and marketing for Duo.

The 6,500 square-feet eatery is owned by Ricky Manjo, Danny Foumia and Suhel Kizi.

Gear: There’s no hard and fast dress code, but judging from the jam-packed crowd that filled Duo’s grand opening celebration this month, business casual seems appropriate. Nice jeans and shirts work for both men and women, but think chic when picking your evening attire for Duo.

Mood: Part restaurant, part lounge, Duo is all elegance. The space boasts stenciled and faux-finished walls lined with an assortment of mirrors, draped fabrics and lighting disguised as art pieces. It is divided into distinct sections -- a bar that runs the width of the venue in the front, a lounge in the middle and a sunken dining area in the back.

Near says you can expect to see “business people of all ages, foodies and a nightlife crowd after 10 p.m.”

Pick me up: Duo offers upscale, casual dining with a variety of seafood like seared Ahi tuna -- $16, Whitefish Provencal -- $17, Yukon Gold Crusted Salmon -- $18 and chicken dishes like Pan Seared Cherry Chicken -- $18, Chicken Santa Barbara -- $16 and Lemon Chicken -- $16.

For those looking for something a little richer, Duo has lobster tails with whipped potatoes -- $29, an 8 oz. filet mignon -- $29 and an 18 oz. bone in ribeye with roasted red skins and onion straws -- $34.

Salads, sandwiches and burgers ranging from $9 to $12 are also available.

Entertainment: A DJ plays top 40 music on Fridays after 11 p.m., and Duo is expected to have live entertainment at certain events throughout the year.

“The music volume is not increased until after the dinner crowd has come through on Friday and Saturday nights – typically around 11 p.m,” says Near adding that regular live entertainment is in the works for some weekdays.
