Status: For the last 40 to 50 years, a bar has stood at the corner of Harper and Crocker. In February 2008, the spot that was probably best known as Oxford Lounge became Mug Shots.

“It’s a staple around here,” says Manager Brent Willcocks. “The crowd varies week to week – older gentlemen to 20-somethings at night.”

Before becoming Mug Shots, the modest bar was Under Dogs.

Gear: There’s no dress code.

Mood: Celebrity mug shots, including Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker, line the wall of the diminutive bar, which has a tile floor and lofty ceiling. A small stage sits near the entrance, and a fully-stocked bar stretches the length of the venue.

Pete Fuller and Carrie Teschke have been going to Mug Shots since it opened because of the “laidback atmosphere” and “great entertainment.”

“It’s always friendly and clean,” Teschke says.

Pick me up
: There’s a full bar and a traditional bar menu that includes sandwiches, burgers and pizza. The Apple Pie shot is the specialty and it’ll run you $4. Beer is available every day from noon to 7 p.m. for $1.50.

Entertainment: Mug Shots typically books bands in the winter as well as acoustic duos. “We never charge anyone to come in,” Willcocks says explaining that “it’s a smaller area.”

A single pool table holds a focal point in front of the stage and a few video games are tucked away in the corner of the bar. About half a dozen flat-screen TVs are hung throughout the venue.
