Reliv sneak preview
The Elysium renovation, which began about a month ago, has not only resulted in a new layout but a new name as well.

What began as a minor change involving the light and sound systems turned into a “complete renovation,” says club co-owner Ivid Bahoura. “When you walk in, it’s a brand new club.”

Though renovations at the five-year-old club are only about 80 percent done, Bahoura plans to showcase the spot, which is now named Reliv.

“The name has some meaning behind it that I can’t really say, but we want people to relive the last five years,” Bahoura says. “Most clubs can’t last that long.”

On Friday, guests can expect a hip-hop and R&B vibe from DJ Fingers, and on Saturday, house and dance beats come courtesy of DJ Tom T.

“There are some major differences,” says Thankachan (DJ Tom T.). “The big bar in the middle is gone. The dance floor is moving to the middle of the club. The VIP area to the right of the main bar is gone and there’s now a huge bar going across the entire length of the club. Also, the color scheme is completely different, and the lighting has been completely revamped and beefed up.”

Bahoura says the renovations cost $250,000 and the final touches are coming this week.

There’s no cover on Friday or Saturday, but you must RSVP to info@relivnightlife.com to get in on Saturday and partyprofessional@gmail.com for Friday.

Friday and Saturday, Reliv (formerly Elysium Lounge), 625 Shelby, Detroit. Free.

Mojo in the Morning's Little Black Dress Party
You can get something for nothing at Sound Board in the MotorCity Casino Friday as Channel 95.5's "Mojo in the Morning" show presents its first Little Black Dress Party with special performances by Kristinia DeBarge (daughter of 80s pop star James DeBarge), IYAZ (Keidran Jones) and Jason DeRulo whose hit single “Whatcha Say” is topping radio playlists.

“Everyone in this city deserves a fun, classy night out right about now,” says Shannon Murphy, the newest member of the "Mojo in the Morning" crew. “The economy sucks, people are stressed and depressed, the weather is blah... We wanted to provide an opportunity for our listeners to forget about all of that yucky stuff and party.”

"Mojo in the Morning" listeners selected in the last few weeks will receive VIP lanyards to hang out on the floor area in front of the stage for the performances which will take place around 11 p.m. The doors open to the public at 10 p.m.

“Every girl has that perfect little black dress in her closet that A) she bought for no reason and needs a reason to break it out and wear it, or B) doesn't yet exist, so she needs a reason to go out and buy one. Girls. Admit it. ANY excuse to go shopping is a good one. Plus, don't all girls look way hotter in a little black dress?!  Of course we do,” Murphy says.

DJ David B from the Channel 95.5 Bomb Squad will be on hand to supply the beats, and for those interested, MotorCity also has you covered for the night with a special room rate for attendees who mention "Mojo in the Morning" when booking their room.

8 p.m. Friday, Sound Board, 2901 Grand River, Detroit, 313-237-7711. Free.

Stimulus Limo Crawl
“Why crawl from bar to bar when you can ride in style?” is the question that John DelCampo asks.

Luxury is exactly what you’ll get if you take part in Saturday’s Stimulus Limo Crawl in downtown Pontiac where four 35-passenger limos will arrive at different venues every 15 to 20 minutes to take guests to their next watering hole.

“People can have a night out and get chauffeured around,” says DelCampo, who owns JD’s Key Club with his wife Maureen. “We think it’ll be a great thing for everybody.”

Cover for the limo crawl includes discounted drinks and free entry into Bo’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que, O’Tooles, OverTyme, Shark Club and JD’s Key Club.

“We pick out places where it’s diverse -- where people can go into places and not be like ‘What am I doing in here?’” DelCampo says. This is the first year Shark Club and OverTyme have participated in the crawl, which began four years ago.

“The price used to be $18 the day of (the event),” DelCampo says noting the poor economy. Along with cutting prices for the crawl, the piano bar owner was forced to cut out extras like t-shirts for the crawlers, but one thing that remains the same is the amount of diversity and entertainment each venue will offer guests.

8:30 p.m. Saturday, Pontiac. 248-338-7337. $11

The Arrival
The corner of Fort Street and Rosa Parks will be a new gathering place for the artistic set as Fort Street Gallery prepares to open its doors this Saturday at the Arrival, a grand opening celebration and fashion benefit for the Karmanos Cancer Institute

“With a lot of artists and people leaving Detroit, this is something that we need,” says Laura Deljanin, curator of the 22,000 square-foot Fort Street Gallery which boasts panoramic views of the downtown Detroit skyline. “Some of the most creative people I know live in Detroit and they really need an outlet to see each other’s creative vibe.”

The event will include an array of art ranging from mixed media, sculptures, photography and paintings. A fashion show with men and women’s t-shirts from Detroit Mechanix, eco-savy designs from Anthropologie and a new line from Paul Anthony will follow the artist exhibition at 9 p.m.

Along with a strolling buffet, fashion show and art exhibit, guests can expect some blues music from Southfield’s Paul J. Miles and sounds from DJ June.

“With all the negative stories out there we really need an upbeat mood,” Deljanin says. “Detroit is known for its creative force and I really want to celebrate it that night.”

A part of proceeds from the event will be donated to the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

7 p.m. Saturday, Fort Street Gallery, 1915 W. Fort St., Detroit, $10.

Callahan's Music Hall celebrates 2nd anniversary
Known as Detroit's Home for Rockin' Blues, Callahan's Music Hall in Auburn Hills will celebrate its second anniversary all month long with a lineup of influential artists like Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Lonnie Brooks, Jimmy Thackery & the Drivers and half a dozen more.

"Growing up and going to great Detroit music rooms definitely impacted what we believe a live music club should be," Michael Callahan, partner and booking agent, said in a statement. "My partner, Dan, and I spent most every weekend hanging out in Dearborn downtown and around town listening to live music in the '80s. Detroit has always been a great town for live music. If Callahan's can carry on the tradition of presenting live music in a friendly, casual and laid back environment, then that's something we're very proud of."

To buy tickets and see the complete line up for the month, visit www.atcallahans.com.

Nov., Callahan's Music Hall, 2105 South Bld., Auburn Hills, 248-858-9508.
