Rose Dreams
It’s a family affair for the Lampasona family, which is throwing a one-day party for a three-day walk.
Breast cancer survivor Roseann Lampasona, 50; her daughters Sabrina Lampasona, 27, and Josefine Lampasona, 24; and Roseann’s sister, 42-year-old Lisa Fazio are attempting to raise $8,800 for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment.
How to do it? Thow a party that doubles as a fund-raiser — and creates awareness for an even bigger event.
The party, dubbed Rose Dreams, will be held Friday at Ernie’s in Clinton Township, and is being hosted by Lampasona family friend and promoter Dominic Evola. It will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust this Friday. Then the 2008 60-mile Michigan Breast Cancer three-day walk takes place September 26-28.
“A lot of people have been really generous in their support,” Evola says. “We’re going to be running a raffle with gift certificates ranging from $50 to $500 from local businesses to raise money for the teams.”
The younger Lampasona girls are walking to honor both their mom and aunt, who also battled cancer, Evola says. The team was named after Roseann.
“I feel that breast cancer is something that has the potential to affect anyone,” Evola says explaining his involvement. “It’s a good event to support and it’ll be a fun time.”
The party will be emceed by Marc Santia of WDIV-TV (Local 4) and sounds will be provided by DJ Captn 20. Hors d’oeuvres will also be available.

(Se)X-ball
If you filled up on kinky fun during Exotica 3 at the Leland Hotel in April, you may have run out of sexual steam by now.
Refuel at X-Ball at the ilounge in Clutch Cargo’s this Saturday with provocative performances by Detroit’s own powerhouse talent agency and performance troupe Chaos Productions, NooMoon Tribe of New Orleans, Noir Halo, Jessica Rabbit and a fashion show by rave/club wear designer Vinyl Dolls.
“For those who prefer a more intimate atmosphere, $10 VIP upgrades can also be purchased for the VIP Lounge,” says retired dominatrix and Chaos founder Ally Stapleton.
“People should look forward to seeing Detroit native Noir Halo back in her hometown while we entertain you in our new home,” says Exotica stage manager C.
The annual fetish ball was scheduled to be held at the deliciously-dark afterhours nightclub the Labyrinth, but “it became clear that there where just too many of you guys to pack in,” C. says. “So thanks to you, the kinky, sexy public, we gladly expanded to this new location in order to serve you better.”
Brought to you by the producers of Exotica, the X-ball is more than just another excuse to walk around in seductive outfits, it’s “a way (for entertainers) to experiment a little on shows and try out things that may be a little risky during a larger show,” C. says. “It's also a way for us to get feedback from the public -- what they like, what they don't like.”
“Fans of gothic underground subculture will get a special treat as guest DJ London Shadows flies in specifically to spin at this event,” Stapleton says. “Ohio’s Dark Choir will be keeping the main dance floor packed with industrial and techno, while local favorite DJ Alexi spins down-tempo ambient in the VIP lounge upstairs. X-Ball’s sexy go-go girls and guys will be in the main room to add to the eye candy.”
"X-Ball embraces our different tastes and choices in lifestyles by uniting the fetish, BDSM, gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender and swinger communities in a one night celebration of sexy performances, fashion, music, dancing, erotic art and the freedom to express oneself," says Vena, Exotica co-founder. "If you live, love, or want to learn more about alternative sexuality and lifestyles, this is an event you don't want to miss."
9 p.m.-3 a.m. Saturday, ilounge in Clutch Cargo’s, 65 East Huron, Pontiac, 248.333.2362. $10, 18+
White before Labor Day
Before you let the ticket prices blow your mind, consider this -- there’s only one Crave the Sunset white party.
For three years, Crave has held an annual white party to celebrate life, beautiful people and Dearborn. Want to take part? Tickets will run you $55 (ladies) and $75 (guys), but, for the first time since Crave began throwing the White Party, the cover will include an open bar.
“Because we get about 2,000 people, it’s easier just to charge a flat rate rather than deal with people,” says promoter Jay Noonchester. “It will weed out some people as well but (that’s) a loss that we are willing to take.”
White attire is required to get into the party and discounts are given on cover with a dinner RSVP.
“There are a lot of white parties -- this is The White Party,” Noonchester says. “The White Party is always thrown during Dearborn homecoming. People can enjoy the Dearborn fireworks from Crave that night at 10 p.m. They go off right over the party.”
5 p.m.-2 a.m. Sunday, Crave, 22075 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, 313.277.7283. $55 women, $75 men.
Sweeter than Before
After a solid run at the Woodward, Signature Saturdays is packing up and heading east to Sweet Georgia Brown.
“I decided to move the events over to Sweet Georgia Brown for a couple of reasons,” says promoter Darnell Macon. “First, I originally started the Signature Saturday events at the Woodward to help in their transition from a full-time restaurant into a lounge. I feel like that goal has now been accomplished -- the Woodward is now one of the most talked about venues on the Detroit social scene.”
The Woodward, now more than two years old, features a small outdoor patio on Woodward Ave., several booths for dining and a casually upscale lunch and dinner menu.
“The other reason is that I saw Sweet Georgia Brown as an opportunity to continue to improve the quality of night life in the city of Detroit,” Macon says. “The venue is very classy and upscale -- I think that my professional party-goers will definitely enjoy the ambience that Sweet Georgia Brown provides. Plus it is right in Greektown, where you have the casino as well as a number of other restaurants and bars for people to visit.”
This Saturday marks the first Signature night at Sweet Georgia Brown so stop by to party with the professionals because it promises to be “sweeter than before,” Macon says.
10 p.m. Saturday, Sweet Georgia Brown, 1045 Brush, Detroit, 313.965.1245. $10 before 11 p.m.
