Inyo grand opening
Coming to Ferndale Thursday, a brand new edition to the metro Detroit dining and nightlife scene: The new Inyo Restaurant and Lounge is all set to celebrates its grand opening.
Fresh and delicious sushi will definitely be served up as well as other modern creations, however Inyo is focused on being something different.
“We’re not really trying to do the Asian fusion,” says Service Manager Derek Rekar, “but it is Asian cuisine.”
Inyo, which is the Japanese symbol for circle and means weakness and strength, opened its doors in a soft opening June 4, but on Thursday, guests will be greeted with a full lunch and dinner menu that includes items like Bejing Duck, a newly-opened patio and sounds by Captn20.
Nightlife “is something we want to focus on,” Rekar says. “We do want the bar atmosphere but we want the lounge experience” too.
There’s no dance floor at Inyo, but with occasional DJs, a full bar, unique dishes like shabu shabu (thinly-sliced meat cooked at the table), this is a spot you’ll definitely want to keep watching on your after-dark radar.
8 p.m. Thursday, Inyo Restaurant and Lounge, 22871 Woodward Ave., Ferndale, 248-543-9500.
DirtyFilthySexy
This will be your last chance to catch the dark techno and electro tunes of Anthony Attalla – at least at the monthly DirtyFilthySexy party.
Friday marks the three-year anniversary and final show at Nove Lounge.
“I wanted to take the party out on top and it seemed like the right time for a number of reasons,” says Attalla, who came up with the concept of the show based on his gritty music style.
“In many ways the DirtyFilthySexy party gave me a substantial building block to get where I am with my career now so I owe a lot of thanks to the people who've come and supported the party these last three years.”
Over the years, Attalla, who boasts a heavy music travel schedule, has shared the decks with Carlo Lio & Nathan Borato, and Dabura.
On Friday, up-and-coming producer/DJ Matt Herdman will man the decks from 10 p.m. to midnight followed by Attalla shutting it down.
This won't be the last you'll hear from Attalla though. He is starting his own record label with friend and production partner, Christopher Norman.
“The name of the label is Incorrect Music and it's set for an August 2009 launch. All of my shows going forward from this point in Detroit will be centered around the label; to push the new music coming into the scene and the artist that made it.”
“I would like to send a mega thank you to everyone that has ever graced the dance floor for a DirtyFilthySexy party over these last three years. They are the ones that have made it so special.”
Bottled beer will be $3 all night.
10 p.m. Friday, Via Nove, 344 W. Nine Mile Rd., Ferndale. 248-336-9936. $5 at wantickets.com.
DJ Jazzy Jeff at V
Perhaps best known for his early career with the Fresh Prince Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff will help Detroiters celebrate their independence (eve) at V nightclub in the MGM Grand Detroit Friday night.
“We are very excited about this event,” says resident DJ Mike Anthony, who spins at V with DJ Tom T. “I know that Jazzy Jeff is excited to come back to Motown and he has a special tribute that he is going to dedicate to the late Michael Jackson.”
Pre-sale tickets for this “Summer Time” event featuring hip-hop producer and turntablist Jazzy Jeff are available at ticketmaster.com.
10 p.m. Friday, V in the MGM Grand Detroit, 1777 Third St., Detroit, 313-465-1650.
313 Block Party
Fashion show and condoms. Health screenings and chicken wings. These are just some of the things you can expect at the 313 Block Party Sunday at Bert’s Warehouse.
“We’re trying to bring the community together and bring awareness by having a banging party,” says Keke Dillard, one of the organizers of the event, which has been around since the early ‘90s.
Targeted for the 21-and-up crowd, the block party, which was last held around 1995, raises funds for local charities like EMIY, Inc. (an inner-city youth enrichment organization), the GirlFriend Network (encourages females spiritually) and Superstar Inc. (a non-profit dedicated to lowering the urban school dropout rate).
“Our goal is to raise over $10,000,” says Dillard who linked up with WGPR-FM (107.5) "Real Talk FM's Ken “Blanks” Harrell to present the event.
There will be a dunk tank, music, networking opportunities and a talent showcase with prizes. Dillard expects about 5,000 people to attend.
“With a large event like that, we wanted it to actually have an impact,” she says. “This party has a purpose.”
Noon-3 a.m., Sunday, Bert’s Warehouse, 2739 Russell, Detroit, 313-393-3233. $25. $40 VIP.
