Cruise through the Shore Club

As the Kiwanis Harper Charity Cruise roles through St. Clair Shores, find your way to the Shore Club for a cruise addendum. While not officially associated with the Harper Cruise, the Shore Club will host an outdoor party with a live band, DJ and drink and dinner specials. To make things a little more interesting, the Shore Club is turning back the clock to the ‘80s.

“We wanted to do a classic theme with the waitresses dressing up in ‘80s gear,” say manager Marcus Abdullah. “There are not many other places in the area you can visit to do this type of stuff.”

For those that didn’t get enough during the Woodward Dream Cruise, the Shore Club will have their own classic car show with about 40 classic cars pulling up. This local nightspot is centrally located between Nine Mile and Martin, making it a perfect stop to take a break and throw back $2 Bud and Bud Lights and different $5 food specials. Retro video games like Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Asteroids will also be available for the retro party.

3 p.m.-2 a.m., Wednesday, Shore Club, 25117 Harper Ave., St. Clair Shores, 586.771.4250. 21+ to enter tent and building

Paxahau 10 year anniversary

A two-day, three-venue blowout will commemorate 10 years of effort and a distinguished Detroit track record as the promotions and production company Paxahau celebrates its 10-year anniversary. Paxahau might be known best since 2006 after taking over production of  Movement: Detroit's Electronic Music Festival, but the organization based in Ferndale has been a long-time player behind the scenes to many of the metro Detroit's signature events, including Cityfest, Winterblast and the Red Bull Air Race.

I think everyone would agree that the greatest feat Paxahau has accomplished in the last 10 years is making the project sustainable,” says Paxahau Director of Operations Jason Huvaere. “After many years of challenge and unbreakable dedication, we are now able to work inside a business structure that protects the project and its future. This was our biggest goal all along and it’s great that we can spend more time focusing on creative ideas and new chapters.”

The anniversary party kicks off at Oslo Saturday night with performances by Zip of Perlon and Chuck Flask of Paxahau. Richie Hawtin and Magda of Minus and Rich Korach and Dan Bain of Paxahau will keep things going Sunday at Z’s Villa before Cassy of Perlon and John Johr of Paxahau takes over Northern Lights  Sunday night.

“This really symbolizes some longevity to a project designed with the audience and music in mind,” Huvaere says. “With a celebration of 10 years behind us, the focus will immediately turn to the launch of the new Web site with new live programming, record label promotions and the 2009 festival. Paxahau will continue to support the city of Detroit, our electronic music community and produce more events for select clients.”

10 p.m. Saturday, Oslo, 1456 Woodward Ave., Detroit, 313.962.7200. $10 presale, 18+

1 p.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, Z’s Villa, 42 Piquette St, Detroit, 313.874.2680. $20

Rock Fash Bash

Parties? Good. Parties for a cause? Even better.

Models, fashion designers and live bands will join forces to show respect to the men and women who fight -- and have fought -- for our country this Sunday during the American Soldier Rock Fash Tribute Concert at the Emerald Theatre in Mt. Clemens.

“Veterans have a lot of benefits (events), but the only people that normally go to a benefit for the veterans are the veterans themselves,” says Maria Wade, event coordinator. “Now everybody can get together so it’s not just veterans helping veterans.”

The fashion show includes sexy midwestern designs by Rebel Girls, Pink Label Corsets, Ivy’s Custom Corsetry, Nicole Gwen Collection and House of Myonne. Wade says that one special model, Ely Davis, the wife of a solider in Iraq, will strut her stuff in the show.

“It’s not about the war. It’s not about the government. It’s just a day to say thank you to the troops,” says Wade, the daughter of a Vietnam vet.

All proceeds from the affair will benefit the Vietnam Vet’s of America Organization in Roseville. Gordy Dibler, father of fallen solider Byron Fouty whose remains were found in July after being missing for 14 months, will be a speaker at the show.

“We would love to have everybody come out,” says event co-planner Stephen Boyle. “It’s going to be a very emotional event. There are going to be a lot of uplifting messages.”

6-11 p.m. Sunday, Emerald, 31 N. Walnut St., Mt. Clemens, 586.913.1920. $10

Touch the Sky

To mark Labor Day weekend, some of the biggest names in Motor City party promotion are working together to present a special holiday soiree that will feature a little flavor of many of the most successful elements of Detroit nightlife for the Ultimate Roof Top Party.

"We all wanted to get together to produce an event nobody else has done before,” says Darnell Macon, who’s known for his Signature Saturday events which have recently moved to Sweet Georgia Brown.

"(All the different promoters involved) Have all got different crowds, so this will be the best of both worlds as we of combine all the crowds together," says promoter Charles Hicks, who’s working with Macon, Bravo, J-Dee, Twin Entertainment and Armani & Marini.

DJ Fingers will be on the decks and free food will be available on the rooftop at the Sheraton Riverside Hotel (formerly the Pontchartrain Hotel).

9 p.m. Sunday, Sheraton Riverside Hotel, 2 Washington Blvd., Detroit, 313.965.0200. $20, 21+

Your blurb about the Emerald Theatre party this weekend is incorrect. There is no Gordy Fouty. He is Gorden Dibbler and he is a FORMER STEP FATHER ...
